What is EcoBoost® and how does it work?

EcoBoost® engines optimize transmission operation as you drive in and around Torrance to get the most out of turbocharging, direct fuel injection, and twin independent variable camshaft timing. This results in a fuel efficient engine that is capable of producing impressive power in a smaller engine size compared to other traditional gas-powered engines. EcoBoost® engines focus on these three areas:

Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT)

This technology adjusts the timing of the engine's valves for optimal performance, improving both power and efficiency depending on driving conditions.

Direct Fuel Injection

EcoBoost® engines use direct fuel injection to deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber. This process ensures precise fuel delivery, maximizing efficiency and reducing waste.

Turbocharging

Turbocharging increases engine power by forcing more air into the combustion chamber. This extra air allows for a more powerful combustion process, enabling the engine to generate greater horsepower and torque while using a smaller engine size.

Ford EcoBoost® engine types

There are three engine types powered with EcoBoost® technology, with availability based on the Ford vehicle you are interested in.

• 5.0L Ti-VCT V8: Up to 500 horsepower can power the Ford Mustang with this engine.

• 5.2L Supercharged V8: Up to 720 horsepower can power the F-150 for all of your towing or off-road adventures.

• 7.3 OHV PFI V8: Select Super Duty models are powered up to best in class 430 horsepower.
